     About us

West-East Open Roads (WE/OR) is a platform meant to create a bridge between the most valuable assets of the East and West.

From cultural, scientific, and artistic elements, to academic and religious ones, Eastern and Westerncivilizations have much to learn from each and the time is ripe for collaboration on all fronts.

In this sense WE/OR strives to provide research on important topics vital to the collaboration and growth of East and West together. This research includes projects focused on subjects ranging from security and geo-political and military analyses to culture and spirituality.

To begin with, we are assembling a group of people who are committed to the study of the East European petroleum industries and their place within the international community. This objective will be accomplished through the publication of information about the development of the petroleum sectors of Russia, Romania, and other post-communist states. This information can be in the form of short notices or longer papers such as RUSSIAN PETROLEUM:

PARTNERSHIPS AND INFLUENCE which was published in March, 2018.

In a broader sense, we will examine both the strengths as well as the problems of these energy sectors.

Another aspect of this work will consist of occasional conferences hosted by American institutions which will bring together people who have an interest in this topic and want to consider the implications of the East European energy sectors as an instrument of national power and as a factor in international business. Through a working relationship with the Romanian American University in Bucharest, we will be able to arrange international conferences in Romania for the sharing of ideas and innovations in this region.

Our researchers are experienced academics, leaders, government workers, and diplomats. They are dedicated scholars and hardworking members of communities from both Eastern and Western cultures. Thus, the WE/OR community practices and promotes quality studies of the broader energy environment. With this, we will encourage critical observations that should enhance prospects for the preservation of resources and values and thus will benefit the development of effective and sustainable energy policies.

In 2014, Professor Alex Butiseaca founded the Review of Social and Economic Issues (RSEI). As we endeavor to continue his work and enhance the availability of RSEI, we will be posting the journal on our website at WestEastOpenRoads. In so doing, we will emphasize the important role of the Romanian American University as an institution committed to the ideals of individual autonomy and political self-determination.
